Markets And Stores For Fabric Shopping That Will Put An End To All Your Wedding Woes

Blouses are an integral part of your wedding outfit. Be it a saree or a lehenga, a blouse can make or break your look. So, we went around Mumbai in our quest to find the best fabric stores for that perfect blouse to ensure that you make heads turn.

Samrat, Santacruz (West)

It looks like another Seasons showroom from the outside but it is home to yards and yards of gorgeous fabric. If you take your saree or lehenga along, the salesmen even guide you on different options for your blouse fabric. They also have a list of handwork artists who can help you get custom work done on the blouse.

Gandhi Market, Sion

This is another treasure house full of jewels. Right from 200 GSM raw silk (you will know these terms once you start bridal shopping) to beaded fabric, Gandhi Market shops offer an array of choices. This is a proper market, so make sure you visit at least 5 stores to get the best possible quote, and take a good look at everything that’s available.

Saroj, Khar West

This hidden gem is the ultimate store for your blouse shopping. Right from embroidered fabric to sequins, they have it all. Situated on the Khar-Danda stretch, you can find them online here. This popular store has a great curation of fabrics from cotton, Banarasi silk, Chanderi, and jacquards, starting at an affordable price of INR 300.

Mangaldas, Crawford Market

The shops are divided into ‘katras’ –  sorted according to the type of fabrics sold. Unique fabrics i their USP. From really delicate Kutch embroidered pieces to ikat, this place houses it all.

Anwarallys, Elco Shopping Centre Bandra

Looking for something in gotapatti work or lace fabric?  Then Anwarallys in Bandra is your calling. You can choose from a wide range of options, including day and night weddings. This store is well-loved by those who are looking to recreate celebrity wedding looks – think Kiara’s wedding lehenga or a suit that Shahid Kapoor would have worn for a film’s promotional events!

Glanz Fabrics, Khar West

If you are looking to mix and match, Glanz is your best bet. They have the best variety – from the simplest of cloth to heavy ones are available here. You select depending on your budget/needs and take home the perfect blouse fabric for your D-day. Glanz has super helpful people at the store who are glad to show you fabrics within your budget

Tirumala, Multiple Outlets

This one’s where all the suburban designers go to get all those fun borders, sweet Banarasi and tulle fabrics. An institution in and of itself, they have both readymade and fabrics. The good thing about this market is the fact that there are tailors all around, so you can get things stitched right away. Plus, the people over here also dye colours you like onto fabrics, so you can pick any shade that you want.

Hind Mata Market, Dadar

This market is really old and very well-known throughout Mumbai. From ‘sasta-wala’ cotton fabrics to exquisite gossamer stuff, there’s something here for every person and every budget. It’s a smaller market compared to the others, but that doesn’t compromise the variety that they have to offer. The Hindmata store, located almost at the centre of the market, is known to have cotton, silk, and polyester sources from all over to suit every kind of outfit.

Vandana Fabrics, Nepean Sea Road

Vandana Fabrics is a huge store on Neapean Sea Road. They’ve got a killer collection of fabrics in every shade you can think of. Whether you’re looking for pure silks, Benaras sarees, chiffons, georgettes or linens, you will find all this and more at this store. An added bonus is that the store staff are accommodating and will help you match your blouse to your saree or lehenga with ease. The store is right in the middle of the Shaadi market at Nepean Sea Road.

Thakur Cut Pieces, Dadar

This is one of the more affordable stores in the lot. Thakur Cut Pieces in Dadar is an iconic shop with a great collection that pretty much has everything you need under one roof. Shop from zardosi to cotton, net, ikkat and Lucknowi Chikan here. And the best part? Prices for their cotton fabrics start at a super affordable INR 150.
